Ngorongoro Crater is considered by some to be the Eighth Wonder of the World and it is the World Heritage Site under UNESCO because it is a multiple land use of coexistence between the Maasai way of life, wildlife conservation and tourism. To understand this when you get your first glimpse of this vast, verdant caldera from the panoramic viewpoint, you’ll soon understand why it has earned such a lofty reputation. You will never forget to have this kind of safari in Ngorongoro.
Day 1 –> Welcome to Tanzania
At your arrival to Kilimanjaro International Airport the driver will pick you up and drive you to Arusha city. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Arusha.
Day 2 –> Drive to Ngorongoro Crater
The driver will help to load the vehicle and drive to Ngorongoro crater for game drive. Ngorongoro is home to over 120 species of mammal including the fabled Big Five, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area is one of the most sought after safari destinations in the world. It’s a particularly good place to see the endangered black rhinoceros enjoying a lonely meal out on the grass plains, as well as a place to see large numbers of hippopotamus enjoying the cool water.
From the comfort of your open-top vehicle, you’ll be able to observe and photograph some of Africa’s most recognizable faces. The crater is home to a large number of predators including lions, leopards, cheetahs, jackals, and hyenas, as well as a large population of wildebeest, zebras, antelope, cape buffalo, and more. It is truly one of Africa’s premier safari destinations.
Have lunch box at the floor of the crater after the thrills and excitement of the day, you will have a picnic lunch by the park’s famous hippo pool. Dinner and overnight at Nainokanoka campsite.
Day 3 –> A walk from Nainokanoka to Ormoti crater
After breakfast at the campsite we take a walk to Ormoti carter with a ranger. The Maasai warriors will herd the donkeys to Bulati campsite and you will meet them in Bulati later. On the way we will pass the forest of Ngorongoro highland and get an opportunity to see different animals and explore Ormoti forest, rivers and waterfall. Walking to Bulati on the way while crossing Emburbul depression you will see wildlife and domestic animals and beautiful landscapes. Overnight at Bulati campsite.
Day 4 –> Bulati to Empakai Crater walking safari
After breakfast at the campsite you will load donkeys and start a walk to Empakai Crater and overnight at Empakai campsite. Lunch at Empakai campsite then after lunch we take a walk to Empakai crater with warriors and a ranger. Upon exploring Empakai crater we walk back to the campsite for our last overnight in the Ngorongoro conservation Area highland.
Day 5 –> Ngorongoro Highland walk towards Lake Natron- Acacia campsite
After early break at Empakai rim crater campsite you will start a walk with donkeys to carry your staff. The views along the trail downwards are spectacular at every point. All along way you can enjoy the changing views of Empakaai itself and pass by Nayobi village. In addition, from the northern and eastern side you can look out to the dramatic cone of the still active volcano, Oldoinyo Lengai in the distance. Overnight at acacia campsite.
Day 6 –> Acacia to Lake Natron
After breakfast at acacia campsite you will start your adventure with Maasai warriors herding donkeys with staffs. The last stage of the journey is not too long and it goes mainly downhill. The highlights of the trek are the great views of Oldoinyo Lengai, Lake Natron and the Rift Valley. The rugged countryside looks almost surreal covered by grey ash of the last eruption in 2007 of volcano of Oldoinyo Lengai. The trek descends down into the dry and hot Rift Valley, where the ash can be seen up close. Around lunchtime you will reach the waiting vehicle at the foot of the volcanic mountain and your driver will take you to Lake Natron. Overnight in Lake Natron campsite
Day 7 –> Lake Natron; Explore Lake shore, foot print and waterfall
Full day in Lake Natron of which after breakfast, the driver will drive far to the west part of the lake to explore the flamingos’ breeding sites and learn about their migration pattern to various East African saline lakes then return to the lodge for lunch to be followed by a day hike to waterfalls for a natural swim. Return to the camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 8 –> Lake Natron to Arusha
This is your last day of your safari. Early morning you will have the breakfast at the campsite, load the vehicle, lunchboxes and drive to Arusha. On the way you will explore the Hole of God according to the Maasai people but according to the geologists is called the foot of the magma. In Arusha you will have few hours to visit shops for your last purchases of gifts to take home. Later the driver will drive you to the airport for your flight
